So...I think some of the older A320's were always slated to be replaced by 737-900ER's.

And recall that the company was looking at existing A319's in lieu of 717's if Southwest's deal wasn't good enough.
It does seem odd that they would want to park 319's because of CASM but claim they were actively looking for used ones recently. I kinda doubt they will park those 319's. Shouldn't they be close to being paid for? If the 9's were carrying similar numbers of pax, the CASM has to be better. The 9 blowing 8,000pph out the tailpipe has to weigh heavily even when compared to older planes like the baby bus.

Of course it also has a greater mission capability.
