Midwest and AirTran are a perfect mix. Two national carriers. The acquiring one (AirTran) is in a lot better shape (financially, fleet wise, PILOT PAY), and the one to be aquired (Midwest) is doing ok, but it is a crappy company to work for. One has a hub in the south. One has a hub in the north. VERY similar equipment.

I personally have been rooting for this merger. I want it to happen. Let some on the national/LCC's combine, and you will have less competition which is good for the entire industry. It is hard to ask two legacies to combine, but I feel the impact would be much less on employees if two national/LCC's combine.

Midwest is fighting the takeover, but I am rooting for AirTran.
