I had a trip in 2006: MEM - ORD - LAX - MEM. There were TWO LCA's on the trip, plus the captain and me. One LCA would observe the other giving a line check, then vice versa.
As you can imagine, I was looking forward to this like a proctoscopy.
I drive 5 hours to work, and about halfway there for this thing my wife called - my dad was in ICU in Birmingham with a ruptured colon and severe peritonitis. I immediately called in sick and just turned east, getting there right before visiting hours ended.
The next day my dad woke up and apologized for making me call in sick. I told him he got me out of two line checks! He did 31 years at red-book NWA, so he understood totally....
Long story short, I stayed with him for 2 days, then had to go back down and evacuate my family for Katrina.... Good times.....
Did I hear from the company? Yes, as a matter of fact - the gentleman who posts here (think Maria Shriver's little sister in Marine hot pants) called (I think it was him, anyway). The ACP's called everybody in the hurricane zone to check on us. I told him I'd get back to work as soon as we got some gasoline down there, and he was super cool about it.
