Crazy system. The schedulers, at least in ATL M88 B, have in effect, negated the benefits of the new reserve system by maxing out SCs. And going to 7 SCs will further undermine it.

It is often posted in the scheduling section the company is abusing the system and putting pilots on shortcall just because they can. When ALPA checks however it never turns out that way. They are following the guidelines agreed upon almost exactly for total number of short calls. They are allowed to increase the number of shortcalls if a IROPS is expected however audits have shown no abuse by the company using that out. Historically the average pilot on reserve at Delta sits right around 3 short calls per month. It varies with category and time of year but the statement that they simply put guys on shortcall up to the 6 max because they can has never been shown to be even close to correct.
I think if you've read the real life experiences of many reserve pilots on this thread you'd have to agree that most of what I wrote is irrefutably true. Have you sat reserve since the new system went into effect, and thus speak from experience? If you have, maybe your category works out differently, which is good for you. Unfortunately, that's not the case for ATL M88 A & B. There are probably others that experience similar results. As for the schedulers putting pilots on SC just because they can; well, that is just my opinion, and I have no proof of it. But again, it's not against the PWA for them to do exactly that. And maybe it's been taken down a notch from the summer months. I don't know; I got a line for Sep so hopefully they're not going crazy on the overkill of SC like they were since the third week of June. From your response to my post I get the impression that it offends you that I should point out something DALPA instituted isn't as great as it was supposed to be in theory. Just my impression....could be wrong.
