How about an '05 hire at CAL that is a captain now or at worst sitting right seat widebody? I'm retiring in the top 25 and would be moving up FAST due to retirements, being senior for the vast majority of my career, not the last 5 years.

Its called a snapshot for a reason, nothing before and nothing after is counted. I can't use my #13 retirement number and -400 F/O bid in 2000 towards SLI career expectations any more than a '05 CAL hire can count their shiny captain wonder bid today. It becomes really skewed otherwise.
