Choosing to be a widebody pilot or narrow body captain and commute to be on reserve as opposed to being more senior on something a little less glamorous doesn't find much sympathy.
Commuting to reserve CA was tolerable, but if it had been a "good deal" I wouldn't have been able to hold the seat until much later. I still complained, though, to deter senior guys from bidding in.
