That sucks, I have jumpseated from the US to Canada, Europe, Australia and Asia dozens of times and never once have I ever paid taxes departing the US. It's always departing the foreign country where I have had to pay the taxes!
That said, to the OP, the taxes I pay out of Canada (from YVR) is around $50 bucks, but as other as pointed out, you will pay them either way!
Correct, leaving US you pay nil.
Leaving Canada you will pay.
If you have delta flight benefits it will be 0 to go to Canada and a few bucks to get back.
