I think that is taking the concept of "undercutting" a little too far. Yeah theoretically in its simplest form it may be. But we are not talking about Mesa or the likes winning some flying. When we are talking about one of the top end regionals winning flying i think it shows they are simply a better run company.
Let's see if I understand.... if Mesa offers to do some flying for a lower price than its competitors, then it's "undercutting", but if XJT does the exact thing with the Delta flying in LAX then it's not undercutting
