When I paid for my first flying lesson, at age 14, in 1973, the J3 I rented was $2/hr. no IP. I had to pay my Dad a 6 pack of Bud per hour to instruct me, that was another $1.99.

So...the whole 1hr. lesson cost me $3.99

No extra charge for the screaming Dad and the humiliation, so that was nice!
