As have I. Many where sharp and many not so much. I agree on the mandatory retirement for two reasons.
One, I don't trust people and their typically flawed or lack of judgement. Most guys wouldn't know when to quit nor would they care.
Two, our "system" for deeming whether or not pilots are fit to fly is a joke! 1st class medicals basically come in a Cracker Jack box and check rides / PC's are a joke. Especially if you have been flying the same airframe for years.
If you want to do away with the retirement age then the "checking standards" need to drastically change.
Oh and yeah the guy needs to go to jail if proven guilty and ALPA needs to actually do something useful and let the judicial system handle this.
