Watching TV in Florida at 10pm, phone rings and told you're converted to B reserve in EWR with a callout of 7am. You're hosed.

If you're talking about after 1500 on the day off before a reserve day, then no, as flybynuts said.

Here's the skinny, as a 5 year CAL reserve guy who bids A.

According to our contract, the earliest an A reserve can be used is 0900 on his first reserve day.

HOWEVER, the company, in a "that's not what we meant" moment, actually had the previous MEC agree to an LOA that basically says even on a day off you must check your schedule at 1500 the day before starting a reserve block.

That's where they can get you with the conversions to short call or place a 5am show on your line.

That's the straight dope.
