Why do you feel the need to wear your badge when you're not on duty, as it's not needed to be in the sterile area since you have a TICKET?
There's a term for you among some FA's..."shirt pinchers"...as in the ridiculous look of your ID hanging from your civilian clothes, with the clip pinching your shirt if you don't have a lanyard. The only reason you're wearing it is you think you'll get some special treatment, which is why the customs guy (rightfully) told you to take it off. You're not on duty, get in line with everybody else. This is usually seen among young new hires who want to impress their girlfriends while non-reving by strutting around with a badge they don't need to be wearing.
The rest of us normal people prefer our anonymity when co-mingling with the public. //Rant off//
