I am still trying to figure out weather to go the airline route or the corporate route.
I have just acquired 2 very part time jobs here flying B200's and I still have my 421 gig. I really like corporate allot. So it is not like I am a Skywest snob or anything. Ideally I would have a secure and full time part 91 gig for life! Yea right and then I could win the lottery.
I have also done allot of research on this airline route and have 3 reasons why I would really only want to work for SkyWest. I feel that they have the best chance of success in the future, have one of the best work environments and have never furloughed. My friend who is a captain for them seems to think I may be able to be based in SFO (who knows) and I live w/n an hour of that. I could also see myself being a lifer with this one or if not go back to corporate if I did not like it.
So I am not desperate (yet) to be a regional airline pilot and give up all that I have worked for here in the last 15 years but if I do than I want it to be with Skywest.
If I do not get a job or an interview with them than if I wish I could always try Compass or something. I am just not in a big hurry to make a huge life changing decision for myself w/o really pouring over it carefully. Put it this way; I have 3500 or so hours of single engine dual given and I think that shows I was never the typical CFI to use flight instruction as a stepping stone to a career path with the airlines. Nothing wrong with that (Please do not think I am harping on those that go at the first opportunity, I am not. Only those that do a terrible job because they hate being a CFI). I just put my mind towards my reputation and doing the best possible job and really enjoying myself doing what I do at my home airport. So it is with one regional airline at a time while I see how this B200 stuff pans out as well, try not to get overwhelmed and make sure I enjoy my future whatever it may entail in aviation.
I really do fantasize about sitting in a CRJ or Bro and think I will really enjoy the life but the biggest bummer I can think of is getting a furlough or laid off in 12 months. I am very wary of the business model of a regional airline and really only want to take my chances with the one that has the best chance.
Besides my captain buddy wrote me a great letter of rec and has been calling HR trying to get me an interview. So this has allot of offset potential.
I am also really not interested in Expungement or hiding what I did. It is all about 100% honesty and if no one wants me than at least I can sleep at night knowing I have integrity.
