You're not on duty, get in line with everybody else. This is usually seen among young new hires who want to impress their girlfriends while non-reving by strutting around with a badge they don't need to be wearing.
Or i'm on a positive space deadhead and don't feel like traveling in uniform on a long-haul flight. Since I'm on duty, I put on the company ID when clearing customs and use the crew line. Often makes the difference between being #3 in line vs. #300 and has prevented me from missing connections more than once. Sorry that it grinds your gears.
