What the OP and others don't know is that turn radius is vital.
Turn radius isn't really taught in the civilian field, but it is in the fighter world--it is fundamental to understanding how to defeat an opponent (in the pre thrust-vecoring world).
The turn radius of concern for a microburst is in the vertical. If you encounter the microburst and are 300 ft AGL, it could be that flying max L/D might give a radius that finishes the recovery underground.
On the other hand, pulling to max Coefficient of Lift (which is not the most efficient for excess thrust, as was said above) makes for the most "g" at the lowest speed.
And THAT makes the smallest turn radius.
