Do you not remember all that rhetoric on The Pipe? Were you even there then?
We have a lot of issues with our management and they way they run things, but generally, we're happy here. You guys came in and overturned our apple cart. So why wouldn't we take the opportunity to flame back a little bit on The Pipe? My comments were only reacting to their comments.
There is an attitude amongst a small minority at L-XJT that I dislike immensely. It generally comes from some of our more senior guys who hate to admit that things weren't working out here anymore and we were close to the edge. In many respects they were similar to the way I view you Captain Tony, and I'm sorry if you feel that to be an unfair comment. They were very resistant to change, they are generally lifers at XJT for one reason or another and when they got hired they were told they were going to be flying for Continental Mainline within just a few years directly by Gordon Bethune himself. There is an attitude among a few here that they are major airline pilots flying for a major that somehow has become a regional. It's misguided.
The fact is that we are both regionals, we are both totally at the whim of our mainline partners and neither ASA or XJT is really in control of our own destinies.
I apologise to you for the attitude of some of our 'holier than thou' pilots. I think that the vast majority of our pilot group doesn't think of themselves in this way. However, we have a good contract, even in it's current concessionary state. We don't want to forfeit that for something which will be worse.
PBS could POSSIBLY work, unfortunately there are many at XJT who have just heard that PBS is bad from other pilots and use the CAL switchover as an example. If used properly PBS is a very effective tool.
I'm sure neither side really wanted this merger to happen, but financially we're stronger because of it. It's happened now anyway, so let's just accept it and move forward together.
As an aside, the fact that one of our MECs is telling junior pilots that furloughs can be better than working is appalling, and is not something someone in such office should be saying.
