I was a regional Pilot once. I got hired at that regional with over 3000 hours a type rating and over 2000 hrs of Turbine PIC. It was the norm at one point. They are raising FAA minimums to levels that are still far below the normal hiring minimums of the past, and had those hiring minimums stayed at the level they once were, Regional pay would be far better, and as a result my pay would be far better.
