One last note: A mediocre contract in a company that is growing is superior to a great contract in a company that is failing. Just ask the L-CAL pilots if they would rather have been at UAL in 2001 or CAL in 2001. Moving from FO to CAP is a way better pay raise and life improver than getting one day off more on reserve or having 2 years more in seniority in a company like USAir where 20 years still doesn't get you a captain's seat.
