What do you mean they can't close a base? I guarantee that if they were losing money by having a base open, the company would close it, just like all other airlines. They may not be able to force you to bid out, but surely there's a way for them to force people out of a base.
Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems silly to think that they can't close a base if they wanted to.
