However, in my second year on the 190 I am on par to make over 80k. Not great but could be worse and more than I would make at any other pax carrying operation other than the new TA at DAL. I am fortunate in that me and my family's health condition (no serious illnesses or problems) but I realize that we need better, less out of pocket medical care. I would like to a better retirement plan than the 5% out of pocket that gets you 5% matching + 8% board discretion, once again argument for a CBA. The reason the job is good is because of the pilots I have had the privilege of flying with here at JB, minus a couple of individuals. The profile of pilot that JB tends to hire makes this a good place to work. After all that is almost all of my daily exposure to the Work environment here at JB. I see constant connecting of the dots and unfounded, out of context facts slung around like monkey poop on these forums. I get that things could be better and if they don't pilots will leave in droves starting next year, however JB is a good place work not the best but good. The only way we can have any control over improving it is to vote for a CBA.
Being around good guys does not make it "a good place to work". That merely makes it "a good place to hang out" and certainly doesn't benefit your wife and family in any way.
This is a career, not a hobby! If I want to have a pleasant time with a bunch of Pilots, I can go to the local flying club.
Industry std compensation, benefits, and decent work rules make an Airline "a good place to work". And, your family will actually benefit from those too. My wife and kids don't care if I work with a bunch of stone faced boring old men or a bunch of happy go lucky jokers. And, why should I? This is my job and my primary goal isn't to have fun. I have family, friends, and hobbies for that.
My family needs financial stability, medical, retirement, and for me to be home courtesy of decent work rules.
On the subject of incorrect info, I hate to inform you that the pay rates are BELOW AVERAGE and not on par as you claim!
However, you are right about the importance of a CBA.
