News alert!! You were the start of "everyone." Don't know if you were/are an active duty/reserve military officer, but when I joined USAA in 1969 it was Active Duty Military Officers only. Now it is every rank, Active and Reserve, former military, second generations who have never served, their kids, and anyone else who wants to join. Both of my kids have USAA and they have never been in the military. They have their kids on their auto policy and none of them have served. The risk pool has definately been diluted.
Even when I joined in 1988 USAA was a close knit business. Remember when half of the military officers had the USAA bumper sticker on their cars. Things did change in the late 1990's, however I have always been pleased with them. Motorcycle insurance was the only time I did not use them.
