If you are hired at 9E with 1000tt, that means you'll have about 3 years at a minimum before you are even eligible to upgrade. That means if there aren't enough qualified to upgrade, QOL drops due to short staffing and possible street captains. If minimums were just slightly reduced to ICAO requirements (2500tt) that would open up a larger pool of upgrade candidates and provide a MUCH NEEDED payraise to Pinnacle FOs.
The more summers and winters one flies through the better captain they are going to be...but I would think after 2+ years in the airplane somebody would be more than capable to pass upgrade and be a safe captain.
the only reason i say that is good is because like most regionals (except for skywest for now) hire guys with the direct atp or caps or whatever it is you want to call it. so like other people pointed out seems like you could theoretically end up with a captain and an fo who combined have a total of 2000 hours exp, and less than a thousand combined in the r.j. itself. it just to low man. i came here with 1200 150 when i started and knew it would take at least 2 years to upgrade which was fine with me... 2 summers of flying in the deep south, and 2 winters of flying in the arctic north,, you can learn a lot about the crj and flying by experiencing these things with an experienced captain.
