There are piles of loose cannons and crazies there that don't come anywhere close to being able to pass a major carrier's hiring process and are a complete pain to fly with.
Flying Delta pax is an unfortunate result of years of lack of scope awareness... that in itself in no way automatically means they deserve a job at mainline. Thankfully, that footprint is finally bring reduced with the new contract.
Given, you've been in the industry longer than I have, so you might know more people, but I'm willing to guess that your elite airline just as many loose cannons as anywhere else. In fact, the only real single and unique attribute I've noticed about DAL pilots compared to every other airline is that they somehow believe they are God's gift to the flight deck. And the vast majority of them seem to contain the idea that they are better than everybody else. If I were you, and I really feel that way about my passengers, I would stand outside of an airport with a big sign telling them about the loose cannons who are about to fly them to DAL's hub. And how DAL sales tickets to passengers who will fly on airlines that say Delta, but the pilots aren't.
