I believe there would be a huge outcry from the industry if we dropped them from discounted shipping.....and barely a whimper if we lost pass travel...

There would be. I know lots of folks at other airlines
airlines use the benefit quite a bit. I used to use it quite a bit before as well.
I've had a few FAs try to "thank" me for the benefit by plying me with liquor. Too bad I was jumpseating...
