One way they can significantly limit flows is to run very large classes. With as many fleet types as we have, when hiring picks up that really wouldn't be much of an additional logistical challenge anyway other than maybe eating a couple weeks or even months of training pay for newbies.

Figure 20 CPZ and 9 Mesabas in a class, plus 12 or whatever the deal is for Pinnacle. That alone is 35% DCI for a class of around 120. But run a class of 200, 300, 400 and only take 20/9/12 and the number of flows per capita could be severely limited.

Again, not ideal for the company in some ways, but they can preemptly staff certain categories in such a way and ramp up certain training fleets to quickly absorb larger influxes than in the past. Especially with the new 1 year seat lock. That looks like it could be a huge part of this.

It would cost a bit more to do it that way, but really not that much more if they plan the peaks and valleys out better.

I just don't see classes of 40-50 per month where every single person is a flow from 3 regionals only and no one else ever for years. There is no way, absolutely no way, the company is going to stand for that. Guaranteed.

After dragging it out that way for years, eventually 400 CPZ + 109 Mesaba flows will be on property (less any amount that left pre-flow for other airlines) and we're back to 12 a month from Pinnacle in normal sized classes again.
