Actually, Varney Air Transport (founded in 1925) which merged with Pacific Air Transport, National Air Transport and Boeing Air Transport in 1933 to become United Airlines, was a totally separate company from Varney Speed Lines which was founded in 1934 and later became Continental in 1937. Little known trivia, the old UAL wings had four stars on them to signify the original four airlines that merged. Our new wings only have two stars unfortunately. History forgotten.
