"If you get an interview" is the tricky part. Most white guys are just sick of applying with a cold phone while women and minorities without a comma in their logbook breeze into new hire class.
Don't get me wrong - If I got a call for a job with 800 hours I'd take it too. I can't hate on anyone who does that. What I'm tired of is hearing the "You've got to pay your dues" part from folks. Sure, I need flight time to get a job, but my competitive time is different from others competitive time.
Like a few years ago speaking to a CAL CA and FO. FO was a girl who was recently hired with very low time (Not even 1,500 hours) and the Captain was a scab. When the discussion turned to getting hired on at CAL I get a lecture from the scab about "paying your dues" and the "entitlement society". So I need to keep flying my ass off to pay my dues, but if there was a picket line to cross or if I had 2 X chromosones I'd be fine? Gotcha.
