When I said guys that are "above average", I'm meaning the guys I know that have a masters, that are LCA's, etc etc etc. And like I said, I know plenty of them that have applied, with internal recs, that are also waiting on a call. As well as a few that got the call and the thumbs down. It's a hyper-competitive hiring situation.
