Mooney wrote something about "convicing a naive flight department" somewhere to give a CL65 command job with just the ATP on the back of the ticket. In the real world this doesn't happen - without PIC time in type - insurance requirements to name a few. Convince the flight department? By pencil whipping the logbook maybe? I just don't understand how this is such a big deal.

Let the FAA and the airline issue the FO the ATP. I think it's great, but without the time, it's not worth the plastic it's printed on. What am I missing?
don't confuse common sense and hypotheticals with legalities it is the letter of the law we have been talking about. it says you can PIC any 91 airplane that your certificate/type has on it. The spirit of the law says "we are doing this because congress made us and we know there is really no use for this outside 121 operations"
