High-energy batteries
The Dreamliner — whose electrical systems generate 1.45 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 600 homes and four times as much as a larger 777 jet — carries two large
lithium-ion batteries, located in forward and rear electronics bays.
However, the person said the only impact of the arcing in the circuit boards was to cut off some of the plane's power supply from a generator, but not enough to present any safety issue.
None of the planes involved was ever in danger, the person said.
If anyone on the forum flies RC aircraft using Li-Po or Lithium-Ion batteries you probably know what happens when one of these batteries catch fire. They are difficult, if not impossible, to extinguish and the heat generated is
incredible.
NOT a good scenario for an aircraft in flight.
I love the comment in the report: "none of these planes involved was ever in danger". Right. If this aircraft had been
in flight, guess what ?
Y'all be careful out there !
