Passport renewals are a pain once you are on line. On the other hand getting pages added can be done during a day at several of the common layovers.
Whatever someone does, don't do what some idiot did and show up at training with a passport that only had 8 months to run.
They will write a letter but this is a painful process. I sat for 8 hours at the Miami passport agency, it cost $200 ($30 for parking too) AND WHEN I finally got the new book at like 1700, they said "whoops we didn't give you the 52 page book. Sorry"
