The company has clearly stated their fleet plan. It is to increase the mainline from the low of 720 jets to 796 jets over the next 3.5 years. They have signed contracts to do exactly that on the exact schedule they stated during contract negotiations. They have also stated that if the economy improves they could generate additional growth via slowing retirements and exercising the options they hold on the 737-900ER's. The planned 757 and DC9 retirements have both been much slower then what was projected shortly after the merger.
How many jets are on the property (being used) today? I have a feeling these numbers won't pan out (net the number of jets that are also parked). You can cue your reasons starting in 3.4 years. In fact let's be sure to revisit these posts at that time. I hope I'm wrong but history from ALPA politicking and accurate information is not on our side.
