It is, but many have been burned thinking their base would be around for the long run. SAN, SBA, MRY, and SMF come to mind. I know at least a few people who passed on other opportunities because they wanted to stay in these bases.
LAX and SFO look pretty solid, but who knows if SkyWest will even be a UAX carrier in 10 or 15 years?
I should add: don't get me wrong. Of the current regional field, I believe SKYW, Inc. is the strongest player, and SkyWest airlines specifically has a bright future. That being said, never hurts to plan for the worst while hoping for the best.
