Not to defend Jeff's performance, because it's pathetic, but it would be tough to compare 2010 financials to 2012 financials in any meaningful way. Even DAL struggled in the 4th Q this year and just barely eeked out a profit.
Just to clarify. Rainey was asked about DAL 2012 profit vs UAL 2012 profit. Not 2012 to 2010. Rainey's remark was in reference to the fact that DAL is 2 years ahead of UAL in merger synergies. Nothing was asked or said about 2010 financials.

UAL.... 4th qtr 2012 $190M
LOSS and $589M profit for the full year 2012 (excluding special items)
The analyst was asking about the HUGE gap in profitability between 2 like sized carriers.
