There is 1 SOC and certificate. Just a training/operating fence since there are different FOM's between the "fenced" 900 and the -200/ATL 900. Last I was told there is a lot of work going on for a common FOM and a streamlining of CFM/POM's to get away from the full initial training footprints. A 96 hour type course would be the next step, followed by a short differences course as an end goal with common books/curriculums. Of course this was the stated plan in July 2010 when all this began, and has caused an expensive train wreck so far.
Sad that the FAA can't exercise some common sense here and look at the big picture as to what is going on. Pure stupidity to make an experienced CRJ200/900 Captain go thru a flow blown training event for the same airplane that he is already flying. Whoever is causing this to occur needs to a hard kick in the nutz for all the money that this wasting. Not to mention the waste of time for the pilots having to go to through these completely unnecessary training events.
