Is the training area far from the airport? Normally, how long will you be on the ground before receiving your takeoff clearance? I know NY airspace is busy.
Sorry for the delay in my response. Usually for takeoff/landing practice they like to go to Bridgeport, CT (which is about a 10-15 minute hop in the Cessnas). The actual practice areas are obviously northwest to northeast of the field because of NYC south of the airport. Typically when I would taxi out it would take anywhere from .2-.4...unfortunately with the airline and corporate jets flying in, you become a little bit less "important" to tower, but the tower people have always been very friendly and helpful! If you have any more questions please feel free to PM me! Good luck!
