Sometimes you don't want to sync or might be using the the ports for something else, i.e., USB to ethernet and or usb to HDMI, etc. I like to use one port for an external hard drive and the other to HDMI so I can watch movies, etc, in places like Almaty or Jeddah. Or sometimes use one port for ethernet and the other for HDMI so I can watch ball games.
