That has not been my experiance, and I own three of them. My 2003 Passat with 115,000 miles has been rock solid, and my 2000 Golf with 126,000 hard miles is without a doubt the best car that I have ever owned. It is too soon to judge the 2012 GTI, but I notice that my wife tends to take that car and lets her E90 sit in the garage.
