You mean because they're scabs?
I don't know all the particulars, but in most cases /states they still have to pay an agency fee or a charge which is the equivalent of what they'd pay in dues. I know that the R's are tying like hell to kill this. Somebody chime in on this with clarification.
There is another clause where they can proclaim fealty to some weird church or something. Please slack me, I'm a Pastafarian
so I know bupkis about other religions.
Bottom line, they're cheap. They're scabs. They way I look at it, if you work under a negotiated contract and are paid according to it, then you pay dues to the entity that negotiated it and protects your job.
This is not an ALPA endorsement, it is an endorsement of collective bargaining.
You don't pay dues, then you negotiate your own deal with the company.
Good luck with that. Let us know how it goes the first time you step on your crank or ding an airplane. You seldom get to hear of the guys whose jobs are saved by the union. They are usually pretty tight lipped.
