No one I know lives in Detroit. Everyone is in the suburbs of the greater DTW area. West of DTW, towards Ann Arbor are good areas. Same thing north, you go into Canton, Plymouth, and Farmington Hills. These are excellent areas. The Canton school district is very nice! To the south you have Monroe and other cities, still ok. DTW itself is in Romulus, and I wouldn't live there. But there are plenty of nice areas suburbs. Brighton has an airport/airpark and several NWA/Delta guys own hangar+houses at that airpark. Troy is also decent from what I hear.
