Well, contrary to sailingfun's postings earlier, the 744 is the second lowest CASM in the fleet, so long as you fill it up. It carries way more and flies a very similar range. The 773ER is closer to a 747-200 as far as capacity (more cargo though).

...and with a purchase price wayyyy below that of the 773ER, some lightly used 744s seem to make much more sense with DL's strategy.

UA sure makes a bunch of them work!
