A lot of the older guys get hired due to the good old boy network. As a 35 year old new hire all your peers will be 23. The odds are slim that any of them could reach a place of power to be able to hire you on to a major.
I don't know of you have a family but taking on a flying career at 35 is near certain financial death. You will be assured to be poor for a long time.

Please...I say go for it! Enjoy life doing what you
want to do, not what you
have to do. Stay in the game, the money will come. I've been a pilot for 25 years. I started when I had two kids and a wife (not in that order) and we did it. Go for it and don't give up!!!!
