Let's hope there's no trend from hiring high time pilots excepting those with something else to "standout", ie check airmen, etc. 10-12k hrs vs 5-6k hrs both are mature levels of flight experience. The people with 10-12k probably have types, significant PIC time, and have managed to get where they are without incidents, accidents, and all the other required nice things. I always though that is some sort of accomplishment. Plus, they have probably have been through the career wringer cycle(s), maybe more than others, but maybe that doesn't seem to matter. Being an IP, or check airmen should be something someone wants to do, and moreover, is something they are good at. Potentially setting up more more hoops to jump through might need reconsidering. Can you see it: Hired at 6k w/o check airmen status. 12k comes along and, golly, you really should be a IP/check airmen, you and the 1500 other 12k pilots at the company.
