The Captain in question was probably taught the technique as an FO (during one of the numerous procedure re-do's we've suffered as management came and went) and never unlearned it. It's not standard.
Would be nice if they published these "hot topics" for us LINE SWINE. But then again, if they did, these 200 hr wonder LCA's wouldn't be able to correct us on something stupid to justify their position.
