Not in 2004 they couldn't!!! Revisionist history at its finest! At that time ASA performed more than 80% of the regional flying in Delta's largest hub, and that was ASA's only hub! Can't exactly shop that around! Oh, and Delta owned the airplanes, which became part of the deal.
