They feel they are not getting the caliber of applicant they would like and mostly blame management. You can't trick people in to coming here anymore. There is no quick upgrade carrot.
This could be the case however my personal interview experience showed otherwise (having interviewed within the last 2 months).
Among my group of applicants almost all were regional Captains, with a few cargo guys there as well.
I saw 3 others pilots from my current airline at the interview and I was the most junior of them with 7000TT and 3000TPIC.
I wouldn't say either that I'm falling over myself to work there. I want to be there, it would improve my and my family's QOL. Hopefully things work out, if not I know I'm competitive to be hired at another carrier going forward. Right now though I'm focused on getting on there and enjoying that ride.
