In the 60s, TW and UAL actually recruited non-pilots from college who tested and wanted to be airline pilots. Out of the 50-some odd guys that started, almost none finished the first 5 years. Flying looks great, "my passion" nonsense, but actually flying over a career isn't any of that--it's work. Challenging, rewarding, yes. It's the difference between puppy love (lust?) and the 50th wedding anniversary.

I've been told that I am different in that way

I guess I was right from the start to stay away from airline flying then if it is just work. I'm lucky that I made it to that 25 year anniversary and look forward to more in the future.
