FAIP and RPAs are two of the least desired and most important jobs. Fortunately we're starting to see some TAMI21 dudes come back to the jet, good for morale and good for their future.
When I was going through training, people were competing with one another to be a FAIP. Of course this were the T-1 bubbas. Getting a couple thousand multi-engine PIC hours under your belt before hitting your MWS ... priceless. Then you don't have to spend a year or two as a co-pilot when you get to your MWS. The SQ/CC is going to pick you for Instructor or Stan/Eval which is more good flying time to have.
Every FAIP I know left the military with lots of PIC time and a nice job somewhere.
