It used to be that Pop's FBO realized the promotion of aviation through reasonably priced rentals and training meant aircraft sales, repair work and tie down fees. Today what I see are predators killing off the few unfortunate animals that wander up to the water hole for a drink. That water hole is drying up and the remaining animals are endangered. As this has occurred the predators have become more vicious. Every time my bonanza gets chased down the ramp by a line guy in a golf cart I feel as though my wallet is being hunted.

In my consulting business (often working for airports) I make it clear that I will not pay these fees. If they try to charge me, I will either refuse to work for them, or add it to my bill and send it right back to them.

Wow, no wonder GA is dying!

I'm paying $4.65/gallon for 100LL but without all the added fees you're getting hit with.

The local FBO is down to only 1 instructor and 2 airplanes, where once he had 3 full time IP's and 5 airplanes. At $170/hr. dual, not too many people are able to afford flying lessons. He does a lot of engine overhaul and repair work, that's about the only thing keeping him in business.

Yet the talking heads on TV are mad because they have to pay bag fees...on top of their $200 tickets. GMAFB. I've got an idea; take the bus! See how that works out for you.
