I would check to make sure the microphone is positioned properly. If you remove the windsock, you will find a side labeled "TALK". This side should be pointed directly at your mouth and the microphone should be 1/4" away from your mouth. Because the microphone is noise canceling, if the microphone is twisted, you will start picking up more aircraft noise and your voice level will be low.
